Redesdale Estate Wines are all from a small cool climate vineyard with frontage on the Campaspe River in Central Victoria.
The soil is volcanic with sedimentary rock. The vines, planted in 1982, struggle – and are low-yielding of grapes with intense flavour.
The first vintage was made for the Redesdale Estate label only in 1999. The grapes are hand pruned and picked with care, whole bunches entering the process in absolutely perfect condition.
The wines, made only from grapes grown on the estate, produce a true history of wine from the same vines, grown in the same soil, year after year.
The wines are aged in new and seasoned French oak , then further aged in the bottle prior to release, resulting in wine that shows great elegance and consistently gains top awards.
The Redesdale Estate wines:
Shiraz
Rich, spicy and elegant, a fine proponent of Heathcote shiraz. Flavours of black cherry, plums, liquorice, blackberries, chocolate and a hint of the wild thyme which flowers at picking, without fail.
Cabernet Sauvignon - Cabernet Franc
A rich and bold blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with small amounts of Malbec and Merlot. Expressive fruit with an extended , enjoyable middle palate, crunchy, gentle, leafy, white pepper.
Cabernet-Shiraz - La Scassatina
Produced for the first time for the 2014 vintage, the blend of estate varietals is fresh and light, with fine tannins, plum, red fruits, and lifted aromatics, an elegant and enticing addition to our wines - already highly prized. The second vintage of this blend, the 2015 wine, has just been released....try it!
Sparkling Rose
Made from the first picking of the 2016 grapes, this dry Shiraz based, sparkling rose has undergone primary fermentation from its own natural yeasts, and secondary fermentation in the bottle, creating a Vintage sparkling wine with light effervescence and classic Shiraz, varietal characters.
Our first part of this wine has been left on lees in the bottle for 3 years and we created an exciting, dry Shiraz based sparkling rose, using the traditional Champagne method, used over more than a century. It is elegant, fine beaded, delicious sparkling Rose, the Shiraz varietal characteristics showing with rare fine palate.
The remainder of the batch has been left longer on lees. When we determine to disgorge the remainder of this vintage, the extra time on lees will reveal a beautiful, fine vintage Sparkling Rose.
This beautiful sparkling Rose may be enjoyed as an aperitif, or throughout a meal - and in all seasons.
